Robbie Williams, the British singer known from the band Take That, shared a story about an awkward situation he experienced while meeting music icon Cher. The incident took place at an airport where both were waiting for their flights.
„Yesterday I met Cher. We were at the same airport terminal. Our mutual friend introduced us. My social awkwardness kicked in, of course,” Williams explained on his Instagram on May 27. „I wanted to make the interaction as painless as possible for her. Looking for a natural break or ending in the conversation, I made my excuses to go sit down. This was not for me but for her.”
Robbie Williams Recalls His 'Unfortunate’ Blunders
Robbie, who has had his share of memorable moments, like the time he pooped himself on stage, added: „Alas, I don’t think Cher had finished talking which made my exiting our brief interaction seem rude. Of course, I will think of this moment periodically for the next 25 years.”
Williams predicts he’ll be „beating myself up at 4 am,” thinking, „And remember that time you were rude to Cher?”
Bizarre Goodbye
In an attempt to add some humor to the situation, Robbie continued: „As I was leaving, I blew a big kiss and said, 'Buy well and barter, make sure you barter.’ Cher looked confused and I went to the toilet mainly to headbutt the wall, lamenting my stupidity.”
Cher on Meeting Meryl Streep for the First Time
Cher, who has had more fruitful initial encounters with other stars, recalled her first meeting with Meryl Streep before they co-starred in the 1983 film „Silkwood” during an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show. „I went to make a movie with her. I was packing my bag, and then I started unpacking it, and my sister kept packing it,” Cher reminisced. „I went, 'I cannot go make a movie with Meryl Streep, OK?'”
Such encounters, although awkward, remain memorable and become anecdotes that stars will tell for years to come.
