Metallica, the legendary metal band, once again visited Poland, where they gave two incredible concerts at the National Stadium in Warsaw on July 5 and 7, 2024. These events attracted thousands of fans, though it’s worth noting that many people attended both concerts, which affects the final number of unique attendees.
Two concerts, two different setlists
The „M72 World Tour,” which began in April 2023, is characterized by the band playing two concerts with completely different setlists in each city. In Warsaw, on the first night, the audience could hear classics like „Creeping Death,” „Harvester of Sorrow,” and „Fade to Black.” On the second day, the setlist changed significantly, starting with „Whiplash” and „For Whom the Bell Tolls,” and ending with „One” and „Enter Sandman.”
Surprises and special performances
During both concerts, there were plenty of special moments. On July 5, Robert Trujillo and Kirk Hammett presented an improvised boogie „Back in Warsaw,” and on July 7, they surprised the audience with a performance of „Kocham Cię, kochanie moje” from Maanam’s repertoire. Metallica has been integrating local songs into their performances in Poland for years – previously, in Krakow in 2018, they played „Wehikuł czasu” by Dżem, and in 2019, „Sen o Warszawie” by Czesław Niemen.
Top-notch stage design and visuals
During the current tour, Metallica uses an innovative 360° stage that allows the musicians to interact with the audience from all sides. Eight giant screens ensure excellent visibility, even for those sitting in the highest seats. Dynamic visual effects, including stage movement, animations, lasers, and fireworks, added extra energy to the show.
National Stadium acoustics – mixed reviews
Although the concerts were unforgettable, there were some controversies regarding the acoustics of the PGE National Stadium. Despite the efforts of the sound team, some fans noticed issues with the sound quality, particularly regarding the audibility of James Hetfield’s vocals. Nevertheless, most viewers agreed that Metallica’s music, despite some imperfections, sounded powerful.
Metallica unites generations
The Warsaw concerts were not only a celebration for long-time fans of the band but also an event that attracted entire families. Among the crowd, one could see both young fans and their parents, showing that Metallica’s music unites generations. During the concert, James Hetfield warmly welcomed new members of the „Metallica family,” which was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
